The ICONTech Grid Measurement System (GMS) is a software-configurable multi-purpose device for capturing and distributing rich power quality measurement data from substations and other grid assets. We currently supply it with a choice of 2 software configurations: A Power Quality Analyzer (PQA) configuration, or a Phase Measurement Unit (PMU) configuration.

ICONTech Grid Measurement System (GMS)

The function of the ICONTech GMS can change as the needs of the grid change. At its core it provides full access to the streaming waveform data from two independent 3-phase busses for online monitoring, inline processing and local storage. The input voltage and current channels use high-speed, high-resolution converters that sample at up to 1,000 samples/cycle at 24-bit resolution (sufficient to calculate to the 100th harmonic at 50 Hz). You can configure the ICONTech GMS to intelligently select which data to monitor, store, or transmit to reduce storage and bandwidth requirements.

Power utilities are undergoing a period of technology transition and evolution. A hybrid, customisable device like the ICONTech GMS can bridge legacy systems with newer technologies, allowing power engineers to selectively migrate outdated systems with minimal disruption.

PQA Software Configuration

The PQA configuration is a localised version of Prolucid’s PQA software. It meets the following standards for power quality measurement:

  • IEC 61010-1, CSA 61010-1
  • EN 61326 -2-1/IEC 61326-2-1
  • EN 55011(CISPR11): Group 1, Class A
  • AS/NZS CISPR 11: Group 1, Class A
  • FCC 47 CFR Part 15B: Class A
  • ICES-001: Calss A
  • IEC-61000-4-7, IEC61000-4-15, IEC611000-4-30-EN 50-60-2007
  • IE Std C37.1111-19999*

The PQA configuration includes a full-fledged Digital Fault Recorder (DFR). It also includes a subset of PMU functionality. For full C37.118.1a-2014 compliance see the PMU software configuration.

PMU Software Configuration

The PMU configuration provides:

  • C37.118.1a-2014 Compliant
  • TVE <1%
  • GPS time synchronization to within ±100ns
  • Power measurements – RMS, P, Q, S, PF
  • Symmetrical Components – Positive, Negative, and Zero Sequence
  • Digital reporting
  • Up to 1 frame/cycle reporting rate
  • Ability to measure 2x 3-phase busses simultaneously (single reference frequency)
