SCADA

A classic SCADA (Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition) system typically consists of a host PC and one or more networked PLCs. The PLCs handle local control, and the PC provides the HMI, data logging, and any custom computation requirements.

The role of traditional SCADA systems is being redefined as Programmable Automation Controllers (PACs) emerge in the market. A PAC combines the functions of both a PC and a PLC in a single device, and is arguably a more robust and capable solution for many applications that would traditionally be handled by a SCADA system. If you are considering the installation of a new SCADA system, talk to ICON Technologies about whether a PAC-based system may better suit your needs.

Notwithstanding the emergence of PACs, traditional PLC-based SCADA systems will continue to play a role in many sectors of the measurement and automation market. ICON Technologies can integrate new PLC-based SCADA systems, and upgrade or extend the functionality of legacy SCADA systems.
